How to Select a Travel Agent

One of the best tips I can give to those planning a Disney vacation is to select the right travel agent. In this ever growing industry it's important to select the right person! If you are planning your first trip to Disney or it's your first time using an agent, it's not easy knowing the right questions to ask or what to look for! Here are some recommendations and guidelines.

1) There are literally HUNDREDS of agencies to choose from. They each have their own rules and guidelines for hiring agents. Most have a page about becoming an agent....take a look at it and see how seriously they take hiring.  If they would hire just about anyone off the street, chances are you won't have an agent that is well versed in Disney Destinations.

2) Referrals and recommendations!! Ask your friends and family who they have worked with and what they liked and disliked (if anything). Nothing better than hearing it directly from the horses mouth!

3) When you first interact with your agent feel free to ask questions!  Planning a Disney vacation requires  A LOT of knowledge and first hand experience is absolutely necessary.  You wouldn't go to the hardware store and ask an employee for a book reservation...or vice versa! Be sure the agent you are working with not only knows the destinations in-depth but who also frequents them often!  Don't be afraid to ask questions before booking!

4) Communicate however you feel comfortable (email, phone, text, etc) but be sure that you are comfortable with the agent. A Disney destination is often an investment and it definitely requires a lot of time to plan so make sure you have  good rapport with your agent.

5) Find out what level of service they offer. Some agents off the basics...they'll book your room and tickets but nothing else. Or you can go to the other end of the spectrum and find agents that book every second of your trip and handle all the details.  Decide what you feel comfortable with and find an agent who's service match....also be sure you find an agent that doesn't charge for their services!
