A Very Dapper Girls Getaway Trip Recap - Day 1

Our first full day! We woke up to more drizzle from the day before and HOT temps. We were rested (mostly) and excited for another day full of new and exciting things!
Today we were starting out our day at Fort Wilderness and more specifically Trails End Breakfast buffet! Since we had rented a car we opted to drive (read below for directions on taking the bus).We were at the fort in less than 10 minutes.  After parking, we quickly hopped one of the internal buses back to the Settlement Depot. The bus was pretty empty but this step could be time consuming if the stops take longer.

There is really only one way to go if you are just visiting but the signs make it very clear.

Even if you don't stay at the campground, there are tons of fun activities! From Horse Drawn Carriage rides, to Campfire Sing-A-Longs and much more!

Trail's End was very easy to find and so far, it was EXTREMELY quiet. We only saw a few people walking around. We were also VERY early to our reservation and were seated right away.

The restaurant was small and quaint inside..and almost as quiet as it was outside!

The buffet looked delicious, as there was a WIDE variety of food to choose from!

You also get to serve your food up on these cute metal dishes and bowls!
Overall we really enjoyed this experience. It can be a bit time consuming to get to, especially without a car as you'll have to take a boat from Magic Kingdom or a bus from any of the other parks. The price was right at less than $20 per person, although Lauren and I don't usually make out in a buffet situation. My favorite part of the meal was the bread pudding with this warm, pecan carmel topping. I'd go back just for this (note that the bread pudding can change).
After breakfast we hopped on a bus back to the parking lot, then drove back to the Boardwalk as we planned to take the boat over to the Studios.

I was SO excited to finally see the park without the hat. It's such a beautiful view!

We had a busy day and saw just about every attraction we wanted to. We only skipped Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular, Disney Jr. Live and Lights, Motors, Action!  The day was jam packed and we had fairly low wait times.

Lunch was Pizza Planet. We each had a pizza and salad (in the background) and probably the most yummy cupcakes of the entire trip!

I had a Cappuccino Cupcake and Lauren had a Vanilla Cupcake with Strawberry buttercream. They were both heavenly! Not too heavy or sweet.
After a few more attractions and shopping, we headed back to the resort for a little rest and to get ready for our evening at the Polynesian!
The new lobby is just GORGEOUS! It so wide and open and was really lovely to walk around.

Our first stop was Trader Sam's. We didn't have a ton of time before our dinner reservation at Kona but we got incredibly lucky. As we went to enter the bar another guest stopped us and gave us their pager as they couldn't wait any longer.  The buzzer went off just 2 minutes later and we snagged 2 seats at the bar.

The themeing in this bar is outstanding. Every little tiny detail! I won't give anything away but it's well worth a visit...especially fun if you have a large group!

Our drinks were delicious!

We were a little sad to leave but were excited to try out Kona. Lauren had never been and I hadn't been in about 10 years. We were a few minutes late, but were seated right away in a fairly empty restaurant.
We ordered an appetizer of Sticky Wings before our main courses.

Lauren had the Grilled Curry-crusted Lamb Chops.

While I had the  Grilled NY Strip Steak (to die for...I didn't love the veggies as they were spicy)
Even though we couldn't eat another bite, we settled on a few desserts. I had Kilauea Torte - An explosion of warm liquid Chocolate inside Chocolate cookie Volcano (not pictured) and Lauren had the Banana-Chocolate Crème Brûlée.

After dinner we went back down to Trader Sam's, but outside. While it was lovely and I really enjoyed the live music, it's no where near the same fun, atmosphere as inside. You can get the same drinks as inside, but a much different atmosphere.

Overall it was a great day! I loved both restaurants and we had a great time at Hollywood Studios!! Next up...Be Our Guest Breakfast and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party!

  1. That cappuccino cupcake is my favorite Disney cupcake! Pizza Planet gets some stinky reviews, but we eat there almost every time. I love the little Caesar Salad (so does Ian) and we think the pizza is pretty yummy. What can we say? Kids at heart!

This sounds like an awesome day!
