The Fantasy

While each of the Disney ships is amazing and lots of features that I love, hands down my favorite ship is the Disney Fantasy.  Today I'm stepping onto the Disney Dream for the day which means I've been on all 4 ships. I suppose I could come back and tell you that the Dream is now my favorite but I'm pretty confident that my heart will remain with the Fantasy. Today I'm going to share with you some of my favorite things about this amazing ship!

First of all, just look at her! She's simply breath taking! I will never forget the first time I saw this gorgeous ship. It's much larger than the Disney Magic and Wonder (which could be good and bad)

Once you step on board, I know you'll be blown away like I was!

Next favorite thing...for Adults only!!  I love that I can enjoy all the amazing guest service Disney offers plus a little time away from the kiddos. From our own pool area..

To the Adults only bars and nightclubs..

To the Spa...

There really is something for everyone!!

Oh and did I mention the AMAZING food? I'm not a buffet kinda girl, but even Cabana's surprised me! We enjoyed a wide variety of food and drink!

Did I mention the UNLIMITED Ice Cream (not just for kids!)

Wait...there's EVEN more!! What about World Class Broadway style entertainment? Check!

Characters around every corner? Check!

An amazing, not just for kids Water slide? Check!

Luxurious and LARGE staterooms? Check!

Of course this is just a few things I love about cruising on the Disney Fantasy!  There is so much to see, do and experience!! Contact me to find out how much a 7-night sailing on the Fantasy would cost! Amanda@mouseketrips.com!

Next up...toppings!! This is the fun part! One topping comes with the dessert but you can add more than one for an additional cost! Some fun options are M&M's, Peanuts, Coconut, Crushed Oreos and Reese's Pieces.

Coronado Springs

One of my favorite resorts, and the resort I've probably stayed at the most, is Disney's Coronado Springs.  In the recent year, Port Orleans Riverside has stolen my heart a bit but there is still so much I love about this resort that I thought it was time we talk about it.

Relive the romance of Spanish-colonial Mexico as you follow in the footsteps of explorer Don Francisco de Coronado at this Resort hotel. Find your own mythical city of gold in a Southwestern-themed haven of brightly colored Casitas, rustic Ranchos and beachfront Cabanas encircling a glimmering 22-acre lake. Each accommodation provides a unique escape and a welcoming home away from home.

Location
Coroando Springs is in a great location, right off Buena Vista Drive which runs from Downtown Disney all the way to the All Star Resorts passing Typhoon Lagoon, Old Key West, Disney's Caribbean Beach resort, Pop Century and Art of Animation (kind of), Hollywood Studios and Disney's Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin resorts.

You are in great proximity to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, the water parks with Downtown Disney and Magic Kingdom being just a little further up the road.

The one caveat to all of this is....Coronado Springs is a HUGE resort! There is an internal bus system with 4 stops (1 is the main stop at the lobby).

For this resort I can't recommend enough, splurge on the preferred room. I really like the Casitas. It's puts you pretty close to the main building.

Buses to the Theme Parks start at stop number 2 and proceed around the resort with the last stop being the Main Building before you head to the Theme Park. Keep this in mind as in can increase your travel time a bit.

Themeing
One of the reasons that this resort tops my favorites list is the themeing. It's so pretty here. I could spend HOURS just in the lobby alone!

The entire resort has a modern feel to it but is calm and relaxing.   The architecture and surround grounds aer modeled after the American Southwest and Mexico.   This resort is my favorite especially at night!

Amenities
The cool thing about this resort is, it's a Convention resort. This means that it does cater a bit more to the business traveler than the families HOWEVER that doesn't mean you'll feel out of place here. If there is no convention going on, you probably wouldn't even know! Coronado Springs is the ONLY moderate resort to offer a Health Club! There is a variety of work out equipment as well as a sauna. Plus you can even get manicures, pedicures, facials, tanning AND massages here!

Of course the resort has the standard amenities such as bike rental, boat and kayak rental, nightly movies and a campfire. Disney ensures you always have something to do!

Food
This resort would be my top pick as far as food at a Moderate resort. There is SO much to choose from!
  • Cafe Rix is a great counter service location for something FAST. Plus you can pick up your refillable mugs here
  • Rix Lounge is fun bar that also offers appetizers
  • Pepper Market is my favorite place to grab a bite! This is a counter service location with a bit of table service thrown in. You CAN use your counter service credits here!
  • Maya Grill is the resorts Table Service Location
Pepper Market

Rooms
As this is a convention resort you'll not only find your standard rooms but a variety of suites as well! The property is divided into 3 villages all with unique themeing.  The Casitas are the closest too the Main Building although certain buildings in the Cabana section are just as close. Ranchos are the furthest from the main building.

The rooms continue that modern feel I love!

My favorite feature is those big heavy wooden doors that separate the bathroom and bedroom area.  It's nice when I get ready in the morning and the hubby (and/or baby) is still sleeping

Other options include a One-Bedroom Suite and Junior Suite.

The standard rooms come with 2 queen beds, split bathroom, mini fridge, table and chairs, TV, etc.

Downfalls
The resort is BIG, and it feels it. You'll do a lot of walking. Even if you get a room close to the lobby, now you'll have a bit of a walk to the Main Pool.

Also, if a convention is occurring you might notice the bar areas and resort in general to be a bit busier although on the plus side it usually doesn't affect the buses.

When it comes down to it, this resort just has a feel and theme that I love. The location is great and I love the updated, modern rooms. It offers amenities that other Moderate resorts don't, for the same price!

Remember, I do these overviews just to give you a quick glimpse into each resort as well as my opinion on the good and the bad.  A great site to see this resort in more detail is Buzz2001's Unofficial Coronado Springs Website.

Guest Post from J.R.- Day 3 Exotic Driving Experience

On Day 4 of our trip, my husband decided to split up from the group to try out the new Exotic Driving Experience at Disney World. Here is his write up.

I have always been excited about cars. Even though I’m not really into Nascar, I’ve always wanted to try out the Richard Petty Nascar Experience. We never got around to doing it, but I always look into it before every trip. During this trip’s research, I found that Disney offers an exotic driving experience. I had to try it!
I chose to drive, versus riding as a passenger with a professional driver. On the website, (www.exoticdriving.com) you sign up in advance to pick your day and time. You then select your car. They have different price points for the cars, and at the Walt Disney world speedway you have the choices of a Ferrari 458 Italia, Ferrari F430 , Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Superleggara, Aston Martin Virage or a Nissan R35 GTR. They also have a Porsche 997 and an Audi R8, but they were not there on the day I went. The prices range from $419 to $169 depending on which car you choose.  The GTR and the Virage were brand new to Disney.

I chose the Nissan GTR, as this is one of my dream cars. It also has the fastest 0-60 time of all the cars there. The track is located by Magic Kingdom, so while entering the parks, you stay to the left, and follow signs for the Driving Experience. I made the mistake of following my GPS, which brought me around the gates of Magic kingdom twice, and into the parking for Magic kingdom once.

When you sign up, you pay for the number of laps (default is 6, with for the GTR it was about $25 more a lap if you wanted to add 2 or 4 additional laps) There is also a driver’s fee of $35, which brought my total to just under $200 for 6 laps.
They offer 3 time slots a day, 8am, 10am, and 1pm. I arrived at 9:15am for the 10am class. They ask that you arrive 30 minutes early, so I made it, even with getting lost.
Upon signing in, I received my badge, lanyard, and a usb stick. We didn’t enter the classroom until about 9:50, just to let you get an idea of wait time. We watched a video that was about 20-30 minutes long, followed by a lecture on what to do and not to do. We were then divided up into groups and went outside to the track pit area to meet the other instructors and our cars. We then had the opportunity to get our picture taken standing next to and in our car. We were then divided into 4 “waves”. I was in the 3rd wave, so I was able to watch.

There were two spectator areas. One area was by track, and one was across from the parking lot. In my opinion, the best spectator spot is across the parking lot, as there is a shorter course.

Halfway through the second wave, I was instructed to go to the track to get fitted for my helmet. Once my car pulled in from the previous ride, I was escorted to the car where I was helped with the seatbelt and met my in car instructor. They start recording your experience once you get in the car. My instructor gave me a run down of how to approach the track, and told me about the throttle control.

Basically the only control they have over the car is a box that they can dial the throttle down from 100% to 10%. This is for their safety and they inform you that they usually only have to dial it down at the start and at the end. My instructor said the Nissan GTR was only a week old to this track, so I was to take it easy. The first lap out was used to get familiar. The next 5 were for you to go as fast as you felt comfortable.

The exotics course is a series of slower speed, high apex turns, with a portion of the Nascar track to build up some speed.  My fastest was 123mph along the back, and it was so much fun. It goes by quick, so I asked my instructor to call out the lap numbers as we were going. Afterward, they pull up and load the next group.
Once I went inside, they had the pictures taken of us printed out with options to buy. There were 2 pictures on a nice wooden plaque for $79, just the two pictures for $35, or one picture for $17. You could also buy your video recording on a USB stick for $99. They previewed it for me and I decided to buy it. They also printed off a time sheet of your lap times. I talked with some of the other guys to see how I compared to their times. I was pretty pleased with myself.

Here is a link to my video:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEq5XURqaD8

They also provide a link to software that provides more detailed analysis of the car (speed, rpm, lateral G, Brake sensor, Gas sensor and gps position on map). The only problem was that my video was split in two, and one of my laps was lost. This also messed up the data on my second portion of the video. I was a little disappointed, but they pointed out beforehand that sometime the video doesn’t work.

I was able to preview the videos on their computers, but didn’t think to make sure it was all there. I didn’t notice until I got home, at which point it was too late. Either way, I would totally go again. I am glad I was in the cheapest car, because I was getting just as fast (if not faster) then some of the guys in my wave that had the most expensive car (the Ferrari 458). If that appeal of being in an Italian supercar is what you are looking for, this is definitely a good way to spend a morning. I was out of there by noon, so just about 2 hours.

Guest Post from J.R. Day 3

Day 3
(Kona, Magic Kingdom, Artist Point)

We decided to start the day at our favorite breakfast place, The Wave! Kona Café is a close second. Their buffet is just delicious. Hana got to try out her first pancake, the sweet potato pancakes. She loved it!

Loved it so much, as we left, she zonked right out from the full tummy before we even left the Contemporary lobby.

After breakfast, we decided to split up. Kyle went to the Exotic Driving Experience, while went to Magic Kingdom. My mom wanted to hunt down and find PUSH, so we headed over to where we last saw him in Tomorrowland and waited. It was cold, so we decided to wait inside Star Traders. This is where we met Patti. She asked us about our morning and was able to tell us when PUSH was coming out. She also noticed our lack of warm clothes, including Hana, and so kindly gave her a blanket.

This is now Hana’s favorite blanket. She snuggles with it and naps on it. So soft. I don’t know what we would have done without this blanket.

Since Patti told us PUSH was scheduled to appear in a few minutes, we went back outside. We waited, and waited, and waited, and she saw us waiting, so she went into the back and somehow, got him to come right out. What a treat!

My mom and Hana boogied on down with him. I have video of it, and will keep this video for the rest of my life. It was hilarious and was a major highlight for my mom.

After dancing with PUSH, we headed over to Frontierland to wander, and saw a photo-op with Chip and Dale. Hana fell asleep in the line. I loved how Chip kept gesturing to Dale to “shhhh” and pointed at her sleeping.

Shortly after, Hana woke up, so we decided to camp out somewhere and feed her. We wandered over to adventureland and saw a bench tucked off between two shops. Across from us was this.

I was curious why there were cameras all over it. My mom thought it was incase people wanted to steal the lamps. Either way, it made our quiet little feeding time into a weird situation. We had atleast two groups of people walk past us, stare at it, and glare at us before walking away. Finally, the third group asked us if we could move for a second and explained what this was.

There is a Sorcerers of Magic Kingdom game. Kind of like the Kim Impossible game they have at Epcot. You sign up at the Firehouse on Main Street, and they give you all you need to do to go on a quest for hints, clues, and you collect Spell Cards. Our friend Krissy did this and thought it was a blast. We might try this ourselves on our next trip. It did sound like fun. Anywho, this lamp cabinet was one of the places you go for a clue. We were right in their way I guess. Glad someone finally explained it to us. We were really dumfounded as to what everyone’s deal was.

From there, we wandered over to my favorite ride, but decided to just watch others riding it. My husband left me his fancy camera, which I was struggling how to unzoom. Here is a sequence of zoomed in photographs showing our journey just wandering around the park.

Never stopped to watch any of the performances in front of the castle before. Surprisingly, it wasn’t crowded at all. This camera makes me feel like I am right there!

Noticed folks were working on the castle. I tried to spy for a while, to see if they were painting or repairing something, but all I saw was them watching the performance down below.

Because of the crane, they blocked off the wishing well. Nuts!

Next to the walkway you would take to go to the wishing well, was a meet and greet area for Meirda from the movie Brave. I was so frustrated at the fact I couldn’t zoom out. I missed out on getting the whole gorgeous area they had set up! Well, either way, I did get a nice picture of tapestry.

The hidden work for the new ride coming, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train.

We saw another meet and greet area with Gaston in the Enchanted Forest part of Fantasyland. My dad’s favorite movie is Beauty and the Beast. For some reason, his favorite character is Gaston. Infact, his request was for me to name my first child Gaston, regardless of gender. I kid you not. So, it was only appropriate for my mom and Hana to get a picture with him.

Now this guy was hilarious. In true Gaston form, he was honest, sarcastic, and oozed confidence. A lot of the younger kids didn’t get his humor, but the adults that surrounded him were laughing pretty darn hard. This adult included. I would come back and stand around for hours, watching him interact anyday!

Hana didn’t know what to make of him, besides the fact, he was mesmerizing. He didn’t seem to mind and admitted that he enjoyed looking at his own reflection in her eyes.

We noticed it was time that Kyle should be done with racing, so we walked over to the nearest train station and hopped on the train back to Main Street.

Hana enjoys any form of transportation that doesn’t force her to be strapped down. Naturally, she found the train enjoyable.

After we met up with Kyle, we went on a few rides. Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and finally the Haunted Mansion. I consider myself fortunate that my kid is more interested in everything going on than to be worried about the dark.

As for the Haunted Mansion, she passed out before she could get in the “doom buggy”. Guess she doesn’t scare easily. We decided it was time to leave the park, but not before getting a dole-whip.

I kid you not, this was only half of the line. There was less than ten people in line when we walked past it two hours prior. Not sure why the sudden need for everyone to get a dolewhip, but Kyle was ready to wait.

Thirty minutes later, dole whip in hand, we moved on to our next adventure at the Art of Animation Resort. We are staying there in the fall and wanted to check it out.

3 Meals a Day

Hopefully you aren't tired of hearing about the Disney Dining Plan yet, but today's post is only slightly related and I think many of you will find it very helpful!

If you are considering booking the Plus Dining Plan there are a few things to keep in mind:
1) Gratuities are not included and are at your discretion (unless you with a party of 6 or more and 18% gratuity will be automatically included)
2) 2 meals and one snack per NIGHT of your vacation are included (plus ONE refillable mug per person)

Every family has their own way of vacation and that includes when and where they like to eat.  Whenever I discuss with a client the Plus Dining Plan, a common reaction I get is "Only two meals a day?"

I'd like to help clarify what you get on the dining plan and the various ways you can use your credits!  First let's talk about how many credits you get. For our example let's use a family of 4; 2 adults and 2 children aged 9 and 8.

Our family will be staying 5 nights at Walt Disney World.  When they check in they'll be given their Key to the World card (or Magic Band if they are lucky!) that will already have their park tickets and dining plan loaded onto it. They will receive:

-10 Adult Counter Service credits and 10 child Counter Service credits
-10 Adult Table Service credits and 10 child Table Service credits
-20 snacks
-4 Refillable Mugs

There are several ways you can use your credits.   Let's start with your table service. Whenever you are at a Table Service restaurant remember that gratuity is not included AND no sharing is allowed.  The best bang for you buck will always be dinner, plus I always recommend taking a break from the parks mid-afternoon so that rules out lunch most days. In the morning you want to be taking advantage of the shorter wait times in the park so most days I would avoid breakfast.  These are VERY general rules and can change depending on the length of your vacation and family vacationing style.

So that leaves your counter service meals and snacks. The great thing about snacks and counter service meals is that you can share!  Disney's meals portions are usually HUGE!

I suggest one of two options to help make those credits last!

1)  Head down to the food court of you resort and grab a few counter service meals to share. Grab a variety of pancakes, waffles and eggs along with some drinks in your refillable mug. Later in find a great lunch option and share a few more counter service meals. Between your 2 split meals and a snack you'll be ready for dinner but not over stuffed!!!
Yummy snacks from France in EPCOT

2)My favorite option is to order a few grocery items before arriving at Disney and saving those counter service meals for lunch time and snacks for those in between times.  We don't like to waste time eating table service for breakfast except on our non-park days or our departure day. We love having some food ready to go in the room like fruit, breakfast bars, juice etc. Plus if you are traveling with a little one you can order diapers, baby food, snacks, etc.  There are several local companies but I like WeGoShop.com the best.

I can help you plan out the best way to use your credits for your family. With dozens of ways to plan your trip, hundreds of restaurant choices and different tastes and preferences I can help narrow down your choices and get the best bang for your buck. Guest Post from J.R.- Day 2 Part 2

After food, we decided to head over to Tomorrowland. On the journey, we ran into the famous talking trashcan, “PUSH”. This guy is hilarious! I will post more about him on Day 3. We decided the first ride to hit up here would be the peoplemover.

We first rode this on our last trip, as I was pregnant and couldn’t do too much. We aimed for the slower rides and ones we usually pass up. This one is now on our favorites list. Ignore the yawn though. I didn’t sleep much and found the ride relaxing and unwinding. Aren’t those the best ones?

We hit a few more rides and then decided it was time to make our way out of the park to our lunch reservation at the Grand Floridian Cafe. Not before stopping at the baby care center.

I wanted to try out the breastfeeding rooms during this trip and was disappointed with most of them. I don’t know if a mother of an infant designed these, but I doubt it.

In Magic Kingdom, it looked peaceful on the outside, but was jammed packed on the inside. I wish I had taken plenty of pictures of the layout in here when it was busy. Before we left for our trip, I looked online and I found lots of photos with it empty and serene.

As you enter, the first room you come to is the breastfeeding room. It was a large, dim room, with four rocking chairs, and a sliding door. It is right by the front door, so the chaos of people coming in and out is apparent. My daughter, who gets easily distracted, couldn’t stay focused during our feeding. Too much was going on. Mothers also brought in their toddlers, who were also running about in this room. Not to mention, kept sliding the door open and leaving it open. I eventually gave up and decided to manually pump. It was a good sign that it was time to leave the park.

Hana liked the boat over to the Grand Floridian Resort and promptly zonked out once we put her in the stroller. We love the lunch there. The service at the Grand Floridian Cafe is always wonderful and the food is perfect.

This happened to be the first place my husband and I ate our first meal as a married couple. Since then, we need to stop there every trip and get the Grand Floridian Burger, a surf and turf type creation. So good.

As for what my mom and I ate, only the best butternut squash soup known to mankind! If you love soup, especially the squash variety, get it! It wasn’t vegetarian, due to the bacon, so just a heads up if you expect it to be. Just so savory. The dessert sampler too….

OH MY GOODNESS! It had on there something for everyone and everything was devoured! Everything except the solid chocolate Mickey. My Mom forbid us from eating him. No fair!

So, after our food, we waddled over and hopped the monorail to go to the Polynesian.

They have some of my favorite gift shops.

After we were done exploring, we tried to figure out the best way to get back to the hotel. We decided to head to the Ticket and Transportation Center, hop a bus to Animal Kingdom, and then hop a bus to Animal Kingdom Lodge.

It was exhausting, but we got to our destination. I really wish Disney would turn the TTC into an overall hub of transport that includes resorts too.

Once back at Animal Kingdom Lodge, we ran into our old college friend Krissy, who we were planning on getting together for dinner later. We told her and her friends, who are both cast members, about our RFID card adventure. We learned if you have park tickets and take them up to concierge, they could attach them to your room card. No need to juggle all those cards!

After our quick meeting, followed by a quick nap, we went to explore the resort. Without a camera. *Shakes head in shame*

We heard the pool was heated, but it was so far too cold for our liking. We wandered over to the bongo area and met Sanna. He told us about the beautiful white bongo, which he was studying for a thesis, and educated us on his home in Botswana, what his name means, and more about the animals. It was a wonderful discussion. I recommend to anyone who visits the lodge to speak to the cast members posted around the animal viewing areas. They know so much!

Once the sun went down, we headed over to Mara to pick up dinner. I think the winner was the chicken flatbread. My husband stuck with roast chicken and African stew, which he enjoyed, and we ordered a cup of squash soup. Everything was good, but the soup. It was far too thick and way too sweet, and not in a yummy way. More like, added too much flour and sugar. On a happy note, we did get zebra domes. Those things are so delicious! Nothing like eating three of those before bed! Perfect way to end the day.

One week and counting!

One of my favorite posts to write is our one week countdown.  This is when your trip starts to become a reality.  Laundry needs to be done, suitcases need to be pulled out and you can start crossing things off your list (you do have lists don't you?).

This trip is a bit unique for me since it's a work trip, but it's still Disney so many the same "rules" apply. Plus it's very odd to be traveling sans baby and hubby.  I don't have to think about packing diapers, or lugging around a stroller.  I'm going to miss them both terribly but I think I might make it through the airport in record time!

Seeing as though this is a work trip, my packing list changes just slightly but there some things that stay the same as with any Disney vacation.

Appropriate clothes
For this trip we've been asked to wear resort casual clothes...which can be tricky! You have to dress professional but "walking" shorts and sneakers are ok.   I've done my best to mix the two while keeping in mind that some times we'll be in chilly conference rooms while other times we'll be outside. The temps right now are looking to be in the low 80's.

Comfortable shoes
Usually when I travel to Walt Disney World I bring two main pairs of shoes; sneakers and my all time favorite crocs (that they don't make anymore)

For this trip the crocs will probably not join me as they are not business appropriate. They are my most comfortable shoe so it's been a struggle to figure out what else to bring. I have a pair of Airwalks as well as another pair of dressy walking sandals that I'll be bringing. Remember when you are bringing shoes, don't bring new shoes and try and bring 2 pairs of shoes to switch on and off. Also remember to pack band aids for those blisters!

Toiletries
I've debated several times about whether or not I'm going to check a bag but when it comes down to it, a) I over pack and b) I don't like bringing just little travel size bottles of toiletries.  Some things on my list are:
  • Shampoo/Conditioner
  • Facial Soap
  • Razor/Shaving Cream
  • Deoderant
  • Lotion
  • Makeup
  • Brushes/hair dryer/straightener
  • Hair lotions
Check out this post here to read about my favorite curly hair products. I've recently cut my hair short and am trying out some new straightening products. I'll let you know when I get back how they held up to the Florida humidity!!  Other toiletries I always bring are band aids and sunscreen

Electronics
Without exception every trip I bring my laptop along but especially this trip. For those of you that are clients, my response time might be delayed a bit but I will be responding to emails. Of course I'll have my cell phone too, as well as my Nook for the plane ride.  Don't forget to pack those chargers as well!  My new favorite product is my portable cell charger for when I'm not close to my actual charger or a wall outlet.
Bag
Without the baby I'm free of the diaper bag this trip.  Since that's what I carry 99% of the time at home I wasn't sure what to bring for the trip. I wanted something small to carry just my cell, camera and money/ID.  The Vera Bradley Mini Hipster is perfect for this trip. It's lightweight and has just enough room for everything I need! Plus I got it on sale on Ebay because the print I like is discontinued.

Out of everything that needs to be done this week, I think packing is the easiest!! Probably since it's just for me!
  • Pack up the baby who will be staying between my house with my hubby, my good friend Andrea and my parents
  • Schedule some blog and Facebook posts for all of you while I'm gone
  • Check in online for both the resort and the airline (as well as printing boarding passes)
  • Clean the house and grocery shop for the hubs
  • Etc, etc, etc
I'm getting very excited for everything I'll be learning next week as well as checking out the Flower and Garden Festival, new Fantasyland, the Disney Dream and much more!

I'll be tweeting and instagraming LIVE while I'm gone so don't forget to stay connected!

Guest Post from J.R.- Day 2 Part 1

Day 2
(Magic Kingdom, Grand Floridian Cafe)

After a goodnight’s rest Hana was ready, bright and early, to hit the parks. We have never made it early enough to see the Magic Kingdom Welcome Ceremony. Let alone, on an Extra Magic Hour morning. The crowds were scarce and it was pretty cool. We tried out the new RFID sensor at the gates. It was super confusing. Apparently, since our tickets weren’t attached to our room cards, we had to wave our room cards, and then meet up with a cast member, with a palm pilot to scan our park tickets. We didn’t run into this problem at any other park.

Again, it was pretty empty, so we decided to try out our first character experience!

She was curious. Rough petting and tugging on whiskers, Pluto didn’t whimper once.

As we walked in, our first plan was to hit up Fantasyland- Enchanted Forest! We walked past Be Our Guest and found they started their counter service at 10am. Then we headed to Gaston’s Tavern.

Best sugary breakfast ever!

A nice cup of LeFou’s Brew! My get up and go juice!

This is about when Hana’s excitement fizzled and she crashed from waking up too early.

This is also when I started running into problems with the charging privileges on my room card. I couldn’t use the waving system to pay, and didn’t find out until the next day that the real issue was with my card. I will go into that more on Day 3. Thankfully, my mom brought her credit card.

I loved the new additions to the park and just wish I took more pictures of Fantasyland in general. Just beautifully done. When we visited on this morning, it was empty and so relaxing. However, the following day, when we came back during the afternoon, it was packed and chaotic. I see some issues with the flow of traffic to and from this area. There was only one way to get from Enchanted Forest to Storybook Circus. Going back towards the Teacups. Point being; avoid the crowds by hitting it up these two locations first thing in the morning.

To kill time until lunch, we decided to hit up ideal “first time rides.” My mom has been to Disney World three times in her life and never rode most of the signature rides. I think it was a real treat for her.
It’s A Small World was first!

Hana has a book about this ride, along with a cd that plays the song, so she was pretty excited due to the familiarity. Infact, I had to pop that pacifier in, because she started “singing”…. loudly.

Half way through the ride, she lost interest. Infact, it was hard to get Hana to summon any excitement on any other rides after this. I guess we peaked too soon.

We then went over to the Journey of the Little Mermaid. It had an amazing queue, but the ride just didn’t meet our expectations. Although, I am not sure what are expectations were. Ursula was pretty realistic looking, so that did impress us. I heard a child whimper a bit from another car, so that might be a heads up for those taking on children that may frighten easily. That may have been my husband though. Either way, be prepared to comfort if needed. OH and don’t bother taking photos. None turned out when we tried.

Next up, teacups. My mom loved them and I was happy to have her go on them. My husband gets motion sick, so he has only indulged me once. Hana however, still no excitement.

She did follow our challenge of no smiling on the teacups.

Dumbo was next, so we wandered over to Storybook Circus. I really liked what they did here. Again, the traffic flow did show some issues the next day, when we came in the afternoon. It was like walking into a dead-end with hundreds of other people. So, I would recommend hitting this up early, along with the Enchanted Forest.

Kyle thought she was sleeping. She was just channeling Eeyore. That and, being the observer that she is, was looking at the ground/water below.

In this area, tucked towards the back, under a “tent” is a meet and greet area with Daisy, Minnie Mouse, Donald, and Goofy. It is called Pete’s Silly Sideshow. Because of the dead-end issue, not many people ventured this far back, so there was zero wait in the morning.

Now, this got her excited.

We didn’t get a picture catching her doing this, but she actually gave Minnie a kiss on the nose. It was so cute.

After our meet-and-greet, we saw it was 9:30 and thought we should head over to Be Our Guest.

We didn’t expect the looooong line!

While we waited in line, we looked at the menu and decided what we wanted. We didn’t manage to get into the restaurant until 10:45am. The worst part about this wait, we couldn’t have the stroller with us in the line. So, for an hour, I had to hold my squirming, exhausting child, who eventually passed out and was pure dead weight.

My back, was killing me.

After we walked in, we were ushered to a hallway lined with coughing suits of armor. I thought Hana would have gotten a kick out of it, since she is in her coughing to get attention phase. Sadly, we didn’t get pictures. It wasn’t until we reached the podium to be placed in the proper line to order food that we remembered to use the camera.

Wish they had comfy chairs like this outside!

Now, the ordering system was not efficient. They had self-ordering kiosks, which made sense, but they also had cast member operated registers too. They asked if we were on the dining plan, which we weren’t, and sent us to a cast member. We ended up in line for quite some time, as we saw folks come and go at the self-ordering kiosks. It was abit frustrating, as I thought not being on a dining plan would make using the self-ordering kiosks easier to use. It was okay though. Once we walked out of that room, my jaw dropped and I forgot all about the insanity.

This is the main dining area, the ballroom. Along those back windows, there was “snow” falling gently outside.

Where you get your beverages.

This is how you get your food. You are given a rose, a red or gold one, which acts like a sensor. The servers come with these carts of food, using a GPS type system to locate you and your order. It was fun to watch everyone wheeling these about, magically delivering food to everyone.

Off to the left, was a second room. The mysterious West Wing. This one was the smallest of the dining areas, but stunning, nonetheless. In the corner, where it is lit up purple, is the enchanted rose! Because it was small, it was also chaotic, as everyone kept wandering into this dim room, looking for seating, and there was none.

We chose to eat in the study, as it had comfy booths, and my daughter was still deadweight. Plus, it was empty and quiet. As a library should be!

There were dozens of paintings in this room, all with hidden Mickey’s. You can’t see it, but there is one in that plate of pastries.

We didn’t get our food until 11:30am. Two hours after we originally got in line. Long wait or not, besides the décor, the food was out of this world!

My favorite was the Croque Monsieur Sandwich, with a cup of French Onion Soup. Yum. My husband ordered the Braised Pork, and of course, the cupcakes! C’est Magnifique!

Funny enough. The a few days before we left, our neighbors mentioned they were leaving for Disney World. We never thought we would run into them! Sadly, their little one was starving, so it wasn’t a happy meeting between him and Hana.

If you do plan on eating here, the best tip I can give is, be sure to be prepared for a wait. Maybe bring a banana, do some stretches, take turns holding sleeping children, and plan any bathroom breaks before you get in line.

Guest Post From J.R.- Day 1

Now, before I get started with our trip report, I have to give props to our amazing Disney Travel Expert, Amanda Mann. My husband and I have been to Disneyland twice, Disney cruised once, and been to Disney World a grand total of 9 times together within the last 7 years. I’ve been proposed to, married at, babymooned…you name it, we’ve done it.

I’ve also planned some trips myself without a Disney travel expert, which I wouldn’t recommend, unless you have A LOT of free time. I also used another Disney Travel Agency with a few different experts, but was often frustrated with the impersonal service and poor communication. It wasn’t until our wedding planning trip that I ran into the ever-so-wonderful Amanda Mann and Mouseketrips.

I don’t think I could plan any Disney trip without her. She gives great advice and tips, responds via e-mail faster than any expert I have ran into, and just is an absolute pleasure to work with. I hope to keep working with her for years to come! Thanks Amanda for all your work into helping us make magical memories!

Now onto our trip report- Day 1 (Flying with a baby, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Jiko)

The big thing about this trip, it was my 6-month-old daughter, Hana’s first. This meant her first time flying too.
To help with the flying experience, we flew during her sleeping times. Hana is an observer. The airport left her excited at all the things to look at that. By the time we boarded, she was just exhausted. Just to be safe, we did bring some crackers, and a soft book she likes to play with to pacify her until we took off. After her take-off bottle, she passed out and slept for the entire flight.

Here she is enjoying those crackers I was telling you about.

I think the hardest thing about traveling with a baby is all the stuff that comes along. We did wait to buy some necessities once we arrived, since we did have a rental car. Things like diapers, formula, water, and food. Less stuff comes less stress. Speaking of rental car, we can’t say enough about National Rental Car. We are part of the emerald club, so once we arrive at the airport, we walk across the street, from where the busses are, into the garage, and down to the “emerald aisle” to pick what car we want.

Plenty of room for our stuff in this bad boy!

We try to book a stay at a different resort every trip, if we can help it. This time it was Animal Kingdom Lodge. The decor and overall theme is just stunning. You are going to read this phrase a lot during this report…. I wish I took more pictures.

On one of our days, we saw kids down there with sheets of paper and crayons shading on the paper. Apparently there are animal carvings on the center part. Kind of cool.

They just started doing the RFID key cards. No need to slide the cards, just wave them over the lock. My mom found out that you don’t even need to take the card out. Apparently it worked right through her id badge she brought. My husband decided to see if her card would work through his thick wallet. It did! Can’t say this technology was flawless in the parks at the gate and in the shops, but to get into our room it worked nicely.

“Hana! There is a Mickey made out of towels!”

Hana received her very own room card. We actually collect these, along with park tickets, and frame them. She was pretty excited.

In fact, anytime we wanted to calm her down, we just would hand her the card. Best toy ever!

The theming of the Animal Kingdom Lodge doesn’t just focus on gorgeous décor, but also animals too.
My mom was particularly thrilled when she saw giraffes out the hall windows. This became a thing we did every time we went back to the room. I wish we took pictures of this. I do have some sweet night vision video footage, but no pictures. They do have a tour they give, with educational information about the authenticity and inspiration of the décor, along with the animals, daily. There was a sign about it in the lobby with the time. I plan on coming back just to check this out.

I like to come up with general ideas as to what days we will hit up what parks, and include dining reservations. We take our food very seriously and look forward to eating while at Disney. I purposely picked Jiko for our first night’s dinner, so we didn’t have to travel far with the baby after such an exhausting day of travel.

Hana taking a quick nap while we all got ready for dinner.

For those who haven’t eaten here, DO IT! I was always intimidated by the idea of African cuisine, but decided to be adventurous and eat here on our last trip. It is now one of our favorites! I love the atmosphere of this place as well. I wish we would have wandered some and took more photographs. My favorite part is along the back wall where the booths are. Over the course of your meal, the lighting changes to symbolize the setting of the sun. It is pretty. You’ll just have to go there to see what I mean.

My mom is a picky eater. By picky, I mean, she doesn’t like things that have different textures or consistencies than she is use to. She also doesn’t eat a lot and I often end up just splitting my meal with her. It works out great budget wise, but when I see her scarf something down, it is a real treat.

The Crusted fish with tomato butter sauce (the one you see her already digging into) was suppose to be a dish we were to split. She left me one bite! My husband and I were stunned. I remember her raving about the sauce on the last trip, but wow! It really made me smile to see her really enjoying dinner. Lucky for me, my husband was not too hungry and shared his braised short ribs. YUM! We also ordered an appetizer of the Tibs in Brik, which is drooltastic, a side of the famous macaroni and cheese, and some delicious squash soup. OH and the African bread with the tandoori butter they bring out is pure heaven.  I would eat that every day if I could.

We happened to be celebrating my mom’s birthday on our trip. Our server did a great job to make her feel special. Since we couldn’t make it to dessert, she packed my mom a to-go bag with cake and a candle. Also, on birthday’s, they make a card and have everyone write a greeting in their country’s language. She cherishes this card.

After we tucked the little one into bed, we decided to nibble on the dessert. It was so yummy that we ate all but one bite before I remembered to take a picture.

I don’t remember seeing it on the menu, but it was a coffee flavored creamy type cake with a seafoam candy on top. Needless to say, happily stuffed and tired from travel, we zonked right out!
