Coronado Springs

One of my favorite resorts, and the resort I've probably stayed at the most, is Disney's Coronado Springs.  In the recent year, Port Orleans Riverside has stolen my heart a bit but there is still so much I love about this resort that I thought it was time we talk about it.

Relive the romance of Spanish-colonial Mexico as you follow in the footsteps of explorer Don Francisco de Coronado at this Resort hotel. Find your own mythical city of gold in a Southwestern-themed haven of brightly colored Casitas, rustic Ranchos and beachfront Cabanas encircling a glimmering 22-acre lake. Each accommodation provides a unique escape and a welcoming home away from home.

Location
Coroando Springs is in a great location, right off Buena Vista Drive which runs from Downtown Disney all the way to the All Star Resorts passing Typhoon Lagoon, Old Key West, Disney's Caribbean Beach resort, Pop Century and Art of Animation (kind of), Hollywood Studios and Disney's Boardwalk, Swan and Dolphin resorts.

You are in great proximity to Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, EPCOT, the water parks with Downtown Disney and Magic Kingdom being just a little further up the road.

The one caveat to all of this is....Coronado Springs is a HUGE resort! There is an internal bus system with 4 stops (1 is the main stop at the lobby).

For this resort I can't recommend enough, splurge on the preferred room. I really like the Casitas. It's puts you pretty close to the main building.

Buses to the Theme Parks start at stop number 2 and proceed around the resort with the last stop being the Main Building before you head to the Theme Park. Keep this in mind as in can increase your travel time a bit.

Themeing
One of the reasons that this resort tops my favorites list is the themeing. It's so pretty here. I could spend HOURS just in the lobby alone!

The entire resort has a modern feel to it but is calm and relaxing.   The architecture and surround grounds aer modeled after the American Southwest and Mexico.   This resort is my favorite especially at night!

Amenities
The cool thing about this resort is, it's a Convention resort. This means that it does cater a bit more to the business traveler than the families HOWEVER that doesn't mean you'll feel out of place here. If there is no convention going on, you probably wouldn't even know! Coronado Springs is the ONLY moderate resort to offer a Health Club! There is a variety of work out equipment as well as a sauna. Plus you can even get manicures, pedicures, facials, tanning AND massages here!

Of course the resort has the standard amenities such as bike rental, boat and kayak rental, nightly movies and a campfire. Disney ensures you always have something to do!

Food
This resort would be my top pick as far as food at a Moderate resort. There is SO much to choose from!
  • Cafe Rix is a great counter service location for something FAST. Plus you can pick up your refillable mugs here
  • Rix Lounge is fun bar that also offers appetizers
  • Pepper Market is my favorite place to grab a bite! This is a counter service location with a bit of table service thrown in. You CAN use your counter service credits here!
  • Maya Grill is the resorts Table Service Location
Pepper Market

Rooms
As this is a convention resort you'll not only find your standard rooms but a variety of suites as well! The property is divided into 3 villages all with unique themeing.  The Casitas are the closest too the Main Building although certain buildings in the Cabana section are just as close. Ranchos are the furthest from the main building.

The rooms continue that modern feel I love!

My favorite feature is those big heavy wooden doors that separate the bathroom and bedroom area.  It's nice when I get ready in the morning and the hubby (and/or baby) is still sleeping

Other options include a One-Bedroom Suite and Junior Suite.

The standard rooms come with 2 queen beds, split bathroom, mini fridge, table and chairs, TV, etc.

Downfalls
The resort is BIG, and it feels it. You'll do a lot of walking. Even if you get a room close to the lobby, now you'll have a bit of a walk to the Main Pool.

Also, if a convention is occurring you might notice the bar areas and resort in general to be a bit busier although on the plus side it usually doesn't affect the buses.

When it comes down to it, this resort just has a feel and theme that I love. The location is great and I love the updated, modern rooms. It offers amenities that other Moderate resorts don't, for the same price!

Remember, I do these overviews just to give you a quick glimpse into each resort as well as my opinion on the good and the bad.  A great site to see this resort in more detail is Buzz2001's Unofficial Coronado Springs Website.
